What is Potassium Sorbate?

Potassium sorbate is a chemical compound with the formula C6H7KO2. It is the potassium salt of sorbic acid, a naturally occurring organic acid. Potassium sorbate is a white crystalline powder that is highly soluble in water. It is widely used as a food preservative to inhibit the growth of mold, yeast, and certain bacteria in food products.

Here are some key points about potassium sorbate:

1). Food Preservation: Potassium sorbate is primarily used as a preservative in the food and beverage industry. It helps prevent the growth of microorganisms, such as yeast and molds, thereby extending the shelf life of various food products. It is commonly found in baked goods, dairy products, sauces, dressings, beverages, and processed meats.

2). Antifungal Properties: Potassium sorbate is particularly effective against fungal growth. It disrupts the cell membranes of fungi, inhibiting their growth and proliferation in food products.

3). Safety and Regulation: Potassium sorbate is considered safe for consumption when used within approved levels set by regulatory authorities, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). It is generally well-tolerated, but some individuals may be sensitive or allergic to potassium sorbate. It's important to check food labels for the presence of potassium sorbate if you have known sensitivities.

4). Usage and Formulations: Potassium sorbate is available in various forms, including powder, granules, and liquid solutions. It can be easily incorporated into food and beverage formulations. Potassium sorbate is also often used in combination with other preservatives to enhance their effectiveness.

5). pH Stability: Potassium sorbate is most effective in acidic conditions. It works well in products with low pH levels, but its efficacy may decrease in highly alkaline conditions.

6). Other Applications: In addition to its use as a food preservative, potassium sorbate is also used in cosmetic and personal care products. It helps prevent the growth of microorganisms in creams, lotions, and other cosmetic formulations.

It's important to note that while potassium sorbate is effective against yeast, mold, and certain bacteria, it may not be as effective against all types of microorganisms. Therefore, it is crucial to follow proper food safety practices and storage guidelines to ensure the overall safety and quality of food products.
Our trade process spreads across CIF, FOB, TTO, and TTT, depending on the buyer's preference.

Here's what they entail:

1). Cost Insurance and Freight (CIF): Here, the seller will handle everything from loading the vessel, paying for insurance, and sending the product to wherever the buyer wants it delivered.

2). Freight On Board (FOB): Here, the seller pays for the transportation of the goods to the port of shipment, plus loading costs, while the buyer pays the cost of marine freight transport, insurance, unloading, and transportation from the originating port to the final destination.

3). Tanker Take Over (TTO): Here, the buyer will take over the vessel, offload the product at their destination, and return it.

4). Tanker To Tanker (TTT): Here, the buyer uses their own vessel, long sides with the seller's vessel, and then the cargo is transshipped when the transaction is fully settled.
