What is Octoates?

Octoates, also known as octanoates or octylates, are a group of chemical compounds that contain the octoate anion (C7H15COO-) as a functional group. Octoates are derived from octanoic acid, which is a carboxylic acid with eight carbon atoms. The octoate anion is formed by replacing the hydrogen atom of the carboxyl group (-COOH) in octanoic acid with a metal cation.

Octoates are commonly used as additives or catalysts in various applications, particularly in the field of coatings, paints, and lubricants. The metal cation associated with the octoate anion can vary, and different metal octoates have different properties and applications. Some common examples include:

1). Calcium Octoate: Calcium octoate is used as a drier or drying agent in oil-based paints, varnishes, and coatings. It helps promote the crosslinking and drying of the film by catalyzing the oxidative polymerization of the drying oil.

2). Cobalt Octoate: Cobalt octoate is a widely used drier in the paint and coating industry. It accelerates the drying process of alkyd and drying oil-based paints by promoting the oxidation and polymerization of the binders.

3). Lead Octoate: Lead octoate is used as a catalyst in the production of polyurethane foams and elastomers. It helps initiate the reaction between polyols and isocyanates, leading to the formation of the desired polyurethane products.

4). Manganese Octoate: Manganese octoate is another drier commonly used in oil-based paints and coatings. It promotes the oxidative drying of the film by accelerating the autoxidation process.

5). Zinc Octoate: Zinc octoate is a versatile metal carboxylate that is used as a catalyst, drier, or heat stabilizer in various applications. It is used in coatings, adhesives, and PVC formulations, among others.

Octoates provide benefits such as improved drying characteristics, increased film hardness, enhanced adhesion, and resistance to corrosion. However, it's important to note that some metal octoates, such as lead octoate, may have regulatory restrictions due to their toxicity.

The specific application and properties of octoates can vary depending on the metal cation and the concentration used. Therefore, it is important to carefully consider the desired outcome and consult product specifications and guidelines when using octoates in various formulations.
Our trade process spreads across CIF, FOB, TTO, and TTT, depending on the buyer's preference.

Here's what they entail:

1). Cost Insurance and Freight (CIF): Here, the seller will handle everything from loading the vessel, paying for insurance, and sending the product to wherever the buyer wants it delivered.

2). Freight On Board (FOB): Here, the seller pays for the transportation of the goods to the port of shipment, plus loading costs, while the buyer pays the cost of marine freight transport, insurance, unloading, and transportation from the originating port to the final destination.

3). Tanker Take Over (TTO): Here, the buyer will take over the vessel, offload the product at their destination, and return it.

4). Tanker To Tanker (TTT): Here, the buyer uses their own vessel, long sides with the seller's vessel, and then the cargo is transshipped when the transaction is fully settled.
